You Give Me Fever

Anyone still out there? Sorry to have disappeared from blogland without a trace. Despite their best efforts, it wasn’t those commenting trolls from the last post who got my tongue. No, that role was admirably filled by the nastiest and most debilitating bout of the 'flu to have come my way in a good few years: Had to take several days off work, and everything. (So nb if I left a comment on your blog last week and it didn’t make any sense, well, that was why.)

Slowly now getting back into the daily grind at my jobs with lots of work piling up, me feeling guilty about having the audacity to have been ill while there is still a world to be saved, and all the while everyone keeps telling me how pale I look. Encouraging! But I think I’d actually have gone crazy staying at home for any longer- did I miss the “street”! That said, there was something vaguely comforting about having my worldview shaped for almost a week solely by internet news sites, blogs, Sky News and “London and Kirschenbaum” (a local current affairs show- Non-Israelis, think Newsnight on acid, hosted by two jocular grandpa types, with a side serving of impressive, dashing correspondents: alas I’m not culturally versed enough to provide a helpful comparison here with any countries other than Britain. But you get the picture) - such a diet of media fodder didn't require me to do any thinking of my own, which was just as well, because my brain wasn't really working.

Indeed, when not being cheered up the by the welcome presence of more visitors than I've seen in my flat all year (each of whom adhered very religiously to the strict “Flu = Fluids” principle and came bearing all manner of soup and related accessories- thanks, lovely folks!) the television made most amusing background noise. To the extent that I finally reached the point of cable overdose: wherein my medication wore off in time to catch the third screening of the same program on one day, I started wondering if I needed to move into the “Starting Over” House myself. I think that may have been the moment I began to will the various remedies (herbal and chemical) to actually work, as opposed to dutifully swallowing them while subconsciously enjoying the brief respite from my crazy life.

Unfortunately, even while high on the mad mix of pills, I still didn’t come up with any groundbreaking solutions to the regional conflict, despite mournfully staring at painful images from Bet Hanun, Sderot and the rest of the world which is none too cheery. The only conclusion I can draw at this time is that all involved leaders probably wouldn't be harmed by a few days on their respective sofas recuperating, vaguely introspecting and eating soup. I would however advise them to keep their reality TV intake to a minimum.

- Like I said, still buzzing from all the drugs. Soon I’ll start making sense again. Until that day, keep passing the come-down Strepsils.

London and Kirchenass always remind me of Statler & Waldorf from the Muppets.

Feel better. Ginger tea is the cure. Lots and lots of ginger tea.

But for now, two friends have decided that you need to see this video!
You'll thank us later, I'm sure.

It sounds awful! I'm glad you're on the mend, and looking forward to rescheduling our date. :-)

And for the record, I absolutely agree with Harry! I'd never thought about it before, but those guys are definitely like Statler and Waldorf (and I'm sure they'd appreciate the comparison...). We watch them all the time (L&A, not S&W, unfortunately).

    Thank you Sarah!

Harry- Have been downing it in gallons. And now I can't ever watch L&K again without thinking "Kirschenass".

Mike- Baby, I'm thanking you now! Fantastic!! (I watched the Birmingham one too, it is an embarrasment next to the Finnish.) Wonder if I should write a Jerusalem one...;-)

    Kasamba- Allegedly! Thank you x

DCDI- I'm in good company then! Does Yakira like it too?

Karma- I'll do an advert for Ginger Tea after this, I swear. And Hot Toddies.

    Thanks, Joe.

Liza, I'm sure they would. Which muppet does Tzvi Yechezkeli get to be, that is the question...

    "Newsnight on acid" LOL!

I agree- maybe Gaydamak would give all our pathetic politicos a very looooong free vacation. Couldn't hurt!

    Feel better!!

Perhaps if the Qassam Rocket Brigade had the flu, things would be quieter as well.

Thank You, RR- I don't think they deserve anywhere too fancy, though...

WBM- Who'd have thought, but yes :-( - that too was motivation for recovery!

BOTH- Dank u wel (I think I spelled it right)

Rachel- Tissues are good. So is Tea Tree oil ;-)

Jameel- Thanks- I could go down to Gaza and breathe on them if that would make a difference...

    hey

sorry to hear illness finally took you down! u were already pale (or should i say a whiter shade of pale) when we last saw you.

i think proper R & R was in order, none of this 'sent home from work because u look sick only to wander around ben yehuda in the rain' type of pseudo-rest!

and maybe it's time to do a quick disinfect of your flat - just get out the hose and smartoot and push all the germy water out your little window!

i heard in ferris bueller that to get well from faking sick, what you need to do is take a shower, wrap a hot towel around your head and then eat some soup. this is all before you jump on a float in the german pride parade in downtown chicago and do the twist in your leopard-print vest.

i'm sending you happy vibes of happiness and wellness. ::vibes::. it's 2 in the morning--i need no drugs to sound nutty!

Hmmm... I know - Pepe the King Prawn!

According to the Muppets website -

"Nicknames: Mister Hot & Spicy, Prawn John, P. Prawny, Appetizer

Special talents: I am irresistible to women, plus I have designed my own clothing line."

    All sounds about right, no?

DH- I heard you heard. Thanks babe.

Debby- Hello- I think I might need another week at this rate. But I've kept the flat well aereated, and as soon as I can mop without falling over, that is the plan! (Yeah, the Vertigo came back too.)

DCDI- Yeah, I've got no time for Cassie either. Especially now she's picking on Hailey...

BUTC- All vibes are most welcome and gratefully recieved!

Liza- LOL!!! *And* he worked as a reporter for Waldorf and Statler! (There's so much info to be found on Muppet Wiki)
