How Much Is That Doggie On The Fashion Channel?

So, a rather bizarre-sounding marriage of convenience will be taking place tomorrow in Jaffa:

It would seem that the world's most unlikely bedfellows, the activist charity group Let The Animals Live and their polar opposite the Israeli Fashion Channel (who don't get a link: anti-feminist, vacuous, eating-disorder/poverty/inferiority-complex encouraging scoundrels that they are) are joining forces to auction off stray animals who, according to the banner, will be put to sleep on Monday ...unless a kind someone adopts them tomorrow evening.

No pressure!

It may not come as a surprise that whenever I read such a sentence my personal impulse is to buy a ranch and adopt all of them. At once. Yes, despite those scary blinking eyes on the dog on their website. And yes, even the cats. I guess it must be the Jainist in me. Unfortunately, I'm not quite able to achieve that dream just yet, what with concentrating on the plight of the various endangered humans in the region, but rest assured, one day the Slightly Mad Guinea Pig/Bunny Sanctuary will come into being.

Meanwhile, I still can't quite get my head around tomorrow's proposed combination. I know celebs are spotted clutching the occasional designer puppy, but still. This remains a country where cats are considered pests. (And I always forget that, until I see a "Just 2 Pounds a month will save Britain's Poor Moggies" campaign- aired what seems like hourly on UK tv) And what with all the fur the models "wear", I can't personally imagine how the plight of the Holy Land's stray animals can be incorporated into a swanky fashion PR event. So out of sheer curiosity, if nothing else, I urge those of you in the area to check it out and report back. Hey, you could even adopt an animal! Do it for me: If there are any parrots up for grabs, all the better.

(Hat Tip)

That's got to be one of the wierdest things I have ever heard of. Will each model wandering down the catwalk have a rangy mutt on a leash tagging along behind? Or will the dogs be the ones wearing this season's A-line skirts? Someone's gotta go and report back!

Jains should regularly adopt the life of a monk for a day.

Wow...are you into fasting as well?

Titania- not yet heard any reports, but the mind boggles.

DH- Not this time :( But I have renewed access to a very nice dog, maybe I'll walk her over and keep 'em happy? (That would be more of a marathon than a walk tho)

Jameel- stranger things have happened- I could definitely be a Jain who adopts the life of a monk for a day...

BUTC- Don't make such promises lightly- I'll hold you to it!!

Kasamba- you crack me up, both with the visual imagery and the Yiddish ;-)

MCA- LOL- those mini-dogs are too trendy to be strays, it would seem.
